As we quickly approached almost six months since our last adventure out of town as a family I felt the travel bug creeping up on me. While we were ready to go on an adventure we weren’t too sure if we were ready for busy beach towns and crowded hotels quite yet. While I was browsing through different Airbnb properties I happened upon one that really caught my attention called Glamping Unplugged.

Glamping Unplugged is located in Deep Gap, NC which isn’t too far down the road from the very cute town of Boone, NC. They offer two primitive camp sites on 8.5 acres with 1200 feet of state stocked trout stream. The geodesic domes come with a king size bed, a bunk bed, linens, towels, fans, coolers, and tons of privacy. The biggest selling feature for me was the opportunity to be completely disconnected from all things technology thanks to no WiFi and no phone reception.

While there is no running water you are provided with camping towelettes or you can rinse off in the stream, just don’t use soap in the stream, and each dome has its own port-a-john. While there is no electricity you are provided with battery packs to recharge the lighting and fans provided. There is a charcoal grill so you have the ability to cook on site as well as provided compostable bowls, cutlery, and cups. If you don’t feel like cooking you can also drive into Boone and find a restaurant to enjoy a meal out.

We took our 3 and 5 year old with us and it was the perfect outing as a family and also something I would’ve loved when I was single and exploring on my own. Our kids LOVED that all we had to do was walk down the stairs right outside the dome and we were at the stream and they could play in the water. They spent hours examining all the rocks and trying their best to learn how to skip rocks across the water. There were some building blocks provided in the dome and they both had the best time creating different castles while looking outside.

The only downside for us was that we didn’t book for more than one night. It was the perfect way to reconnect as a family and we plan on staying more than one night next time so we can get even more time unplugged and completely immersed into nature.
